The Mochicas
The Moche started 100 A.D. in northern Peru. The Moche were not very political, but they shared the same types of cultures. Such as in sculpturing, painting, gold works, and irrigation systems. There sculptures were very original and sophisticated they were detailed with hunting, fishing, fighting, sacrifice, sexual encounters and elaborate ceremonies.
Time Period
There time period was seperated into three major times. The Early Moche A.D. 100-300, Middle Moche A.D. 300-600, and Late Moche A.D. 500-800. Many Scientists think that they were not very politically organized as a monolithic empire or state, but as a group of poloties that shared a common elite culture as seen in rich iconography and monumental architecture.
Religion
Iconography and findings of skeletons show that human sacrifice played a major role in mochican religious practices. Scientists question how the Moche ended they think that an ice glacier came by around A.D. 500 through A.D. 600. Recent discoveries suggest that that this did not occure, because they discovered artifacts that suggest they lived past 650 A.D. in the Jequetepeque Valley and the Mochican Valleys. Also, there is no evidence in foreign invasion or take over of there city. There is some evidence of social unrest, as climatic changes they fought over sacred resources.
